as promised in an earlier post, i’m sharing another delicious lemon recipe! lemon bars hold a special place in my heart – i can remember picking them out from behind beautiful glass bakery cases when i was a kid, after swimming lessons (or maybe after ballet lessons? i’m not entirely sure – eating at yummy bakery memories blend for me – it was a rough childhood, i know). while i tend to favor chocolate desserts, and just plain old chocolate in general, lemon bars are one of the few exceptions i make to my chocoholic nature.
a few weeks ago, my friend’s mom gave us a huge bag filled to the brim with meyer lemons. what a gift! ever since then, we’ve been making all sorts of delicious lemon-based recipes (i’ll post more soon!).
the summer is flying by so quickly! i have a ton of great recipes to share with you to utilize the beautiful produce this season brings, but i’ve been so busy having fun (see the pics from my birthday) and spending time outdoors that i haven’t been posting as regularly as i’d like (although i’ve been cooking more than ever!).
i’ve been on a quest for many years to find the perfect hummus. up until this year, the quest merely centered around store-bought hummus. it’s been a hard quest, replete with purchasing different types of hummus every week and then sampling them with veggies and pita chips – exhausting work, i tell you!
when i received a beautiful tart pan for my birthday this year (thanks, mom!), i decided that i had to utilize the new present and try my hand at tart making – something i’ve never tried before and frankly intimidated me a little bit. at about the same time, a coworker lent me a lunches, picnics & appetizers version of the tassajara cookbook, and while thumbing through the pages i found a lemon tart recipe that spoke of being the best of all lemon bar recipes, but reinvented into a tart. (i have to give credit to my talented husband for the gorgeous pic above, and while i’m at it, he also gets credit for about half the pictures on this website.)
i absolutely love lemon bars and figured that this would be a perfect way to ease my way into the art of tart baking – because how can you go wrong with lemons, butter, and sugar?
