dinner is served!

when i bring my leftovers into the lunch room at work (hi, coworkers!), i get a lot of questions about what i’m eating and where i found the recipe. i absolutely love having this kind of conversation, as we can all share our favorite places to find new and delicious ideas. most of my recipes come from vegetarian times, food blogs (see blog roll to the right), and a solid collection of cookbooks i’ve acquired over the years (thanks, friends and fam!). pouring into the ramekins

a couple of years ago, my aunt sent us the gift of a creme brulee kit, complete with ramekins and a mini blow torch. i was so excited by this present that i got a little creme brulee happy, and made the dessert more times than i can count (the pic below is from that era of creme brulee at every party, circa 2006).

my favorite meals to make are hearty, fairly simple dishes that leave lots of yummy leftovers for lunches and dinners later in the week. thus, i rarely gravitate towards entrees with humongous lists or complicated preparations for my usual weeknight fare. but every so often, there’s a fancier, more complicated recipe that grabs me and i convince myself that it will be worth the extra time to create a spectacular meal.

jamie and i begin vegan cupcake mania

a few weekends ago, jamie, tyler, mike, and i decided it would be a great idea to select TWO cupcake recipes from the tantalizing cookbook vegan cupcakes take over the world, by isa chandra moskowitz and terry hope romero. we labored over our choices, drooled over the pictures, and selected coconut lime cupcakes and brooklyn vs boston creme pie cakes.
