i love all things with fruit and butter and sugar – crisps, tarts, pies, cobbler – you name it, and i’ll bet that i love it!
when i bring my leftovers into the lunch room at work (hi, coworkers!), i get a lot of questions about what i’m eating and where i found the recipe. i absolutely love having this kind of conversation, as we can all share our favorite places to find new and delicious ideas. most of my recipes come from vegetarian times, food blogs (see blog roll to the right), and a solid collection of cookbooks i’ve acquired over the years (thanks, friends and fam!). mmmm…waffles! it’s hard for me to begin writing, because i placed all of the pictures in my post first, and instead of writing text around them, i keep drooling over the memory of the taste of these waffles and wishing that i had some leftover, waiting around in my fridge to be eaten. alas, they are long gone, so i’ll try to move on.
ok, so first things first: have you noticed that my fabulously talented husband and i did some work on my blog this weekend? i updated the header, added a recipe index so you can easily find recipes in their appropriate meal section (breakfast, entree, etc), or search through categories for ideas of what to make (including vegan, garlic and onion free, and sugar free), and mike provided a bunch of technical expertise, plus tweaked text formatting, and added some ads to the sidebar. thanks, mike!
i promised all of you the recipe for my homemade applesauce that i made for our sixth annual latke party, and so here it is as an early christmas present! i have to start off with the disclaimer that i LOVE apples, but i am really not a huge fan of applesauce. there aren’t many things that i enjoy as much as a crispy, tart, and flavorful bite of apple. my dad used to take me apple tasting at the ucsc farm and garden when i was little, and taught me to really delight in the differences between apple varieties – kind of like wine tasting for all ages. now, i look forward to picking out all sorts of new and exciting varieties of apples (plus the old favorites) to eat and compare notes with mike on the sweetness, crispness, texture, bite, etc.
