on npr’s “all things considered” last night there was an interview with jeffrey eugenides, the author of the excellent book middlesex (thanks for lending it to me, katie). eugenides gave a very articulate and interesting overview of his new book, which is a collection of unique and unusual love stories – so engaging that i sat in my car and finished listening outside my house. he suggested that we all read his book on valentine’s day in lieu of going out to dinner at restaurants covered in red carnations. we all know how much i hate carnations, so his suggestion made sense to me, and i might just check out his book while eating some dark chocolate tonight. following is the link to the interview: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18958585
regardless of how you spend valentine’s day, i hope you all can give someone you love (two legged or four, friend, family, partner, or yourself – because you’re wonderful!) a hug today.

Thank you, Emilie! I really liked Middlesex and I will check out the interview.
I like carnations, but they do get extremely overused.
Hugs, on the other hand? Never too many. Bring ‘em on.
