while on my drive home from work tonight, i was stopped at the red light on river street and highway one next to a brand new white hybrid civic. the hybrid was emblazoned with the bright yellow “clean air” stickers:

the driver of the civic opened the door and held a cigarette in one hand low to the ground. i began to shake my head at the irony of the hybrid car driver smoking a cigarette as he brought a large mc donald’s cup of soda out of the car door with the other hand and proceeded to extinguish the cig. what a dichotomous life the driver leads!

Bizarre. Makes me wonder if he bought a hybrid just ’cause he thought it was trendy. Or maybe he’s completely ignorant of the environmental harm done by McDonald’s and cigarettes. Hard to believe.
I haven’t seen this sticker before. Is it just for hybrids?

yes, they are just for hybrids. check out this link for details: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/decal.htm

I have heard of people buying hybrids just for those stickers so maybe that is what he did. Too bad they are all out of stickers because I would like one for my bike since I get about 46 miles to the gallon of soy milk.

I agree with Kate. What stickers do bikers get? We’re leaving the smallest footprint and yet get no financial rewards. Oh well, guess the joy of riding is the reward itself.

ahaha, katie, your comment about running on soy milk cracked me up!! and bikers should totally get some reward in addition to the joy of riding – which is pretty great. :)

Also hybrids can be dangerous for bikers since you can not hear them coming.
